what, then, art the 'soul' the mortals claim doth exist in every mortal being? and art such limited to the mortals, or can such be through lower animals as well as the filth?

My dairy Lord, there is no such thing as soul. It's just a nice little concept certain mortals invented to scare us decent mortals into following silly rules.
