I've just started AS level Art and Design and the title is "A sense of place". I have no idea what to do, not as a subject but I don't know how to analyse and evaulate art. I need to do two double pages, but I have no idea what I'm supposed to put on the pages at all. I'm doing a forest theme. Can anyone explain it to me, preferably someone who has done AS Art and Design already?
AS Art help?
Me am architect so I have some helpful hints that maybe of relevence for you .
Art is wide range of media, photo, drawing, painting, sculpture, music, building, classical, Renaissance, post modern, neo classical, art deco, modern, so the list goes on
"A sense of place" could mean how its interpreted on the visual level or how it affects the your senses and how ppl interact with "the place" your subject matter is about ..
Just think of how you react to the lets say a well known memorial like the Vietnam wars memorial, what is your sense of that place, sure its just a wide shaped V black piece of granite recessed into the ground but not rising above it with 59K + names sure its kinds post modern , but what is the real sense hmmm of the place does it move you ?, does it make you feel small ?, does it make a statement or just what does it do for you ? Is it supposed to do anything to your senses at all ? or is just a stone in the ground that has alot of names ... what is the price of those names ?? what is the meaning of it being black granite...
I hope this helps because not sure what media or what type of art fits your subject Good luck hope this gave you an idea
Reply:hey idk what AS art is but im in IB Art and it sounds similar. just to make sure im clear... you have to anylize a piece of art right? ok so, a sence of place. it sounds like they really want you to get into the character of the place. like how it makes you feel and why. what makes that place unique? for example if your looking at a painting of a forrest. what feeling do you get from it what is the mood? what is the artist trying to say. look at the trees what are they like? are they tall, pine, leafy, knarled, close together? is there one particular objecrt that seems to be the focal point of the piece? what about the color scheme? you might want to research the elements of art and design and identify a few throughout the piece. color theory might help too. you should research them anyway because theyll help you later.
