I learned TKD when i was 6 years old and stoped after few months because i am frustrated in my flexibility where i have to stretch before the lesson starts. ALLmylife my flexibility is not good. I barely touch my foot with my hand. i want to take up a martial art for defence. So i learn capoiera when i was 17 years old,But it is more of a show then fighting. I stopped it after 1 month because of that and the intense flexibility. I want to take up muay thai now because it is say to be good training for my phisical and muay thai is a serious martial art where you can easily knock out someone who dont learn any martial art.So PLEASE give me some advice on what martial art should i take like TKD,karate, boxing and others. anyway i heard that muay thai doest need alot of flexibility to learn moves. all u need is muscle power and speed. HELP!
What martial art should i take?!!? Mauy thai?!?
Ryu,
There's nothing wrong with giving Muay Thai a try. Who knows, maybe you'll become a champion one day.
Reply:hmm, how about aikido?
Reply:ummm....all martial arts require good flexibility. I'd suggest just taking a yoga class to improve it. Also, Capoeira isn't just about show; you probably went to a bad school. In my school we still hit and get hit and all those flashy kicks actually hurt when they come from an accomplished student or master, even the most obscure.
Reply:Go for it, I absolutely love Muay Thai. You will learn very practical striking with your hands and legs, and you don't have to be super flexible. Many of the most effective kicks in Muay Thai focus on your opponents legs!
Leg kicks are seriously, seriously underrated. You don't have to be able to kick a guy in the head to be a good fighter. Have a decently trained Thai fighter blast you once in the thigh if you don't believe me =)
Reply:if you can't kick with power, then do boxing.you need flexibility in muay thai
Reply:Most all real fights end up on the ground is an old saying ..... so anything that doesnt involve "ground work" or wrestling is not so great. As in mauy Thai .... it's a boxing thing .... most all will require some streching ...it's a good thing ... you don't need to be like a balerina to become good at any of them. Hapkido is better than akido .... If you want to learn devestating knock out type stuff Black dragon ninjitsu or any ninjitsu training is the way to go. small circle jujitsu is good for grappling stuff. In reality at a certian point it doesnt really matter what matters is you find one that teaches something you enjoy so you stick with it. All of them are good physical and anyone with knowledge in anything can probably knock out someone who doesnt know how to defend themselves .... The funny thing about martial arts is the better you become the less use you will have for it ... people just seem to know not to attack you. Most people who attack people are picking on someone not looking for a fair fight. The best self defence move is ... to be nice, because people don't attack their friends or people who they like :)
Reply:BOXING!!!
you dont need good flexability to do boxing as there arent any kicks but it is a hardcore self defence thing to learn boxers almost always win in fights against martial artists i dont care what you say i have done both (do martial arts at the moment :p) i love boxing and i would do it again if i knew of a good boxing gym where i could get to easily
Reply:It depends on your constitution. If you have massive torso and long arms, I suggest boxing or judo. If you are average, russian system or kiokushinkai karate. If you are week of constitution, take aikido or jiujitsu.
Reply:I think that u should stick to TKD as I'm myself in it.I know it is not an easy task but it is the best option for learning self defence.U may have muscle injury in boxing and muay thai.My own flexibility is not so good but I recommend that u should take TKD.Work hard and enjoy it and u will definitely like it.Take it easy and u will definitely have mastery over it.I also need your help.PLEASE answer my question on Pg-101-109 in education and reference.I can help u in TKD.
