Why should learning 3d (computer) art in high school be important for students?

my principal is planning on adding a 3d computer arts program to the art dept, which is great. he is asking me to teach it until they can find someone to fill that position. only problem is, my knowledge of computer art is very limited. i had worked with photoshop and 3dmax back when i was in college, but it wasn't very indepth. the principal says that he has a "vision" for the program and wants to know mine as well. i really don't have much of a vision at all for the program, to me the computer is just another tool to make art. help me out people. i need a vision. someone help me see the light of art and technology.

Why should learning 3d (computer) art in high school be important for students?
Learning 3D computer art in school should be important for students in high school for the following reason:

1. Allows them another tool to create works of art.

2. Working in three dimensions allows the student to use another aspect of their brain. We tend to draw in one and two dimensions but three dimensions brings forth more abilities and skills for the students to harness.

3. (Cutting edge) Technology allows the students to get first hand experience on the computer software and the hardware.

4. Students can learn skills like planning and implementing small scale projects. Through the use of 3D software, students will plan, create, and animate a 1 minute animation.

5. Team work is involved as students will team up in pairs or groups of (pick a number).

6. Students iwll have a portfolio of their work when they are finished.

If you begin 3d at grade 10 they can begin to get introduced to the programs. By grade 11 they are creating items in photoshop, premiere, etc and by grade 12 they are making an animated video (by the end of the year).

Hope this helps. It sounds like a great opportunity for you to enhance your skills as well.

I've seen some schools that build their own websites (the students do a page) and put their 3d artwork on it.
Reply:I have worked in the 3D movie and scientific industry for some time and can tell you. Companies such as Pfizer, BMW, NASA and others....use 3D imaging/graphics to

project or display in 3D to give the designer or viewer a better representation of the objects being viewed.

CGI movies as well as live action movies will also play a key role in the immediate future in the entertainment industry.

Mechanical design also uses 3D imaging....as does molecular design for chemists and pharmaceuticals.

Also look into blue ray and maya
Reply:Because someone in that class may want to create video games when they grow up or make new things that will make them rich later on in life. The 3D can be used in moviesand cartoons too and that what some people get credited maybe even rewarded for. But first you got to know how to use it. Plus it opens up your artistic side and some students may love art. Your parents would be proud to see what you can do. Hope this links help. Good luck and rooting for ya.
