Do you enjoy doing art? Why?

I'm trying to write an essay about teaching art, and would like to know about people's opinion of their own art. Do you enjoy doing art? Would you consider yourself to be good at art, and how would you feel about having to teach art?

Do you enjoy doing art? Why?
My dad lectures art education, so I've been indoctrinated from an early age with the idea that there's nobody who 'can't' draw, it's just that we lose our creativity as we grow up, pay attention to adults' standards and become self-conscious. We were never allowed to have colouring books (my dad said we'd get the idea that they were 'better' than our own pictures and forget how to think for ourselves), and were encouraged not to rub out mistakes or try to make things perfect. To this day I enjoy drawing, painting and pottery (my mom's a potter, so there's always clay available). I don't always consider my own work terribly interesting (specially with the pottery), but sometimes I produce something I'm really proud of. Mainly, I just enjoy it and find it relaxing. Everyone in my family enjoys drawing, and is pretty good at it. My fiance paints, too (even though he's an engineer) and it was that creative edge that got me interested in him. There's something about someone who can sit for an hour getting intimate knowledge of every little curve of your face as he sketches you.

I think a lot of it comes down to how much stimulation and input you get during the creation process: I've seen kids draw very ordinary stick figures, and then when they're persuaded to look carefully they draw beautiful 3D pictures with all sorts of detail like freckles and stitching. Often we draw what we expect to see, and hardly look at the object we're drawing.

I think I'd enjoy teaching art, but I'd get frustrated that every time there was a new intake, I'd get a new batch of students who think they're useless and that art is a waste of time unless you're William Kentridge and making millions from it. But then there are the cases that make you want to carry on, like the kid I teach maths to. He struggles to express himself verbally, but give him a pencil and he can draw exactly what he wants. If it wasn't for art, I think he'd be a very frustrated individual.

You could talk about art as therapy (people get to draw their experiences, and this gives them some control over them and their expression of them), art as a way of stimulating creativity (which can then be used to think differently in whatever profession they end up in), art as expression, art as aesthetically valuable - the benefits are huge.
Reply:Yes I do enjoy my art. I love it! I do face painting parties %26amp; holiday window's as well. I love to teach kid's how to draw %26amp; use the color's.They alway's come up with something new that I haven't thought of which make's it even better for me.
Reply:No, not really. I remember doing some sculpture at high school which I enjoyed, but I haven't done any since. And I never really liked drawing, presumably because I'm not very good at it. It can be quite frustrating when you've got a picture in your head and nothing you do with a pencil achieves more than a vague similarity to it.
Reply:I don't think I can teach art. I don't have a degree to be a art teacher. I am an artist and I consider my self pretty good. I started drawing when I was in first grade and by third grade my art starting going to conventions at a CAB. Where kids who can draw of all ages first thru 12 grade good art work end up there. Today I have personal drawings of my own that are framed and hang on my walls in my living room. I don't don't sell them. I was born with this talent.
Reply:I love art. I have a weird disorder where I can't always put what I'm feeling into words to tell people. I stutter and feel out of my realm. But when I paint, i speak volumes-- not in words, but in lines and colors and saturation. I feel in control of myself, my world, because if you can imagine something and put it on canvas, its real. Art is more than my outlet. It is a place where my mind and heart and hands come together to communicate to the world who and what I truly am. This is the only time I feel truly gifted and beautiful. I probably couldn't teach it, but I thank god every day for those who do because they give their students an amazing, immortal gift.
Reply:most people only enjoy it if there good at it

but i like it because it's exciting to see the end result. :)
Reply:I enjoy water color painting, pencil drawing and charcoal drawing.

From the time I was a small child, there were relatives who modeled drawing for me. I got a kick out of watching an [then a teen] uncle draw. As I got older, people reinforced drawings and artwork I did. I have been told I do good work. I believe that because it is the message I have heard all my life. We do tend to be encouraged by words of praise. I still like to draw and paint. I will never make a fortune at it. I do small paintings and drawings and make my own note cards and holiday cards to send to friends. That is fun, too.

We are all teachers of art in a way. My uncle helped me develope an enjoyment of drawing by showing me. Others taught me by their words what they liked best about my drawings and paintings. I sold some contract pieces of work. Then, I just followed directions and added my own creative touches. I am sort of glad I did something else for money instead of teaching art because now it is still fun and has nothing to do with making money. It is just one of my creative outlets for fun.

The world, however, will suffer if everyone feels the same way I do about it. Teachers are necessary, too.
Reply:art in the sense of painting or sculpting can be interesting and magnificent to examine but personnally I prefer art of the motoring kind, also the female body is fun to study
Reply:i don't enjoy it

i'm not good at it

no matter what medium we are talking about, i am disappointed in whatever I make, arrange, whatever.

i would be a terrible person at teaching art, because i don't enjoy it. the kids need someone who is enthusiastic about art, for them to learn to enjoy it.
Reply:its thrilling to make something out mere shapes...that's what i like about art...and not to mention the fun of it
Reply:yes i enjoy creating art very much, it makes me happy once iv produced and acheived something. i also like being able to see how people interpret things differently, its really interesting and shows how different and unique people are, and how although we all live in the same world, sometimes we can views things in a VERY different way. hope that helps :)
Reply:Yes. For growth of wisdom %26amp; feeling happy.
Reply:Because one makes a gift to oneself or to his/her soul and also to other selves/souls if they enjoy it.Doing art is a joy for souls.
Reply:Id maybe like art if i had a different teacher, but because of her i hate art.
Reply:yes cause
Reply:I don't care if I'm good at painting or not. I enjoy doing it, and I enjoy what I create. I work on a painting until I'm happy with it... or until I don't feel like doing it anymore. I don't paint to create masterpieces, I paint simply because I like doing it and I like creating pieces of the world as I see them. I do it because I can use beautiful colors that I love. I paint thinkgs with soft, undefined lines because they are very forgiving if I mess up. But there is no messing up, is there? Because it all just adds to what the finished project will be.

I don't think I would like to teach art. There's too much technique in teaching... I just want to do it because it allows me to be free.

*It should be noted that I can't draw to save my life, and I don't have the patience required to make things look the way they actually are. I take colors I like and I blend them into shapes I like. That's about it. Really, I just do what I like!
Reply:Yay! I'm a fish!
