Work of Art?

To be labelled a "work of Art", a painting, sculpture or other art form should display certain qualities that are unique. However, over the past century there has been a decline in the quality of prize-winning artwork and it is now possible for quite ordinary pieces of art to be labelled "masterpieces" whilst true works of art pass unnoticed. Do you agree or disagree? Give me you reasons. Thanks.

Work of Art?
I totally agree! I mean if a so called artist can present her unmade dirty bed as a piece of artwork, what is the art world coming to? What happened to nice works of art, not necessarily aesthetic pieces, but pieces that actually mean something, I'm not an art lover as such, but I do know what I like and I certainly don't like some of this 'modern art' rubbish!
Reply:Thank you. :) Report It

Reply:One professor once stated that a piece is art "If someone is brave enough to say it is."

I do however have a hard time undertanding how a canvas painted orange is considered to be just as artistic and innovative and a Van Gogh or Picasso.
Reply:Everything is a business - it's all about the money. The USA is a classless society, i.e., a one-class society and it's called the Merchant class. An artist is successful when he/she is singled out for hype and promotion - just the luck of the draw [sic]. ;-)
