How can I do art on the computer?

Okay, this isn't as stupid as it sounds, but I know there's some software out there that lets you do art on the computer. I guess an example of art would be some cartoon pic. on DeviantArt website. How can I do art like that? How can I make my art look more...professional? Below is an example of what I'm talking about (in case you're confused):

so...how can I make my art (the colors...the technique) make it more like the example link? Is there a software that lets me do that?

It's called Adobe Photoshop and you can get a table so you can"draw" with a "pen" for the computer. If you cannot afford Photoshop I recommend GIMP, it has many features of Photoshop and costs nothing.





GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring.
Reply:If you are really going for an artistic effect that resembles traditional (hand drawn or hand painted) art a bit more, you'll want a tablet to use instead of just a mouse. Even if you don't want to go traditional, the extra control you'll get with a tablet will be worth it if you create a lot of digital art.

Also, while Photoshop is fantastic (I use it myself), some people also really like Painter for artistic digital work since it has a little more focus on making traditional looking art. (Like if you want to make something look like an oil painting.)

Reply:The link is broken, but what you can do is buy Adobe Photoshop (or use a trial version to try it out). People at DeviantArt usually hand-draw their art, scan it, and then color it using Photoshop.
Reply:yes actually all you have to do is download a clear non colored photo that you can color save it in your pictures and right click that photo it will say open with. and seect paint color it in and vhaula there you go preety picture.

well i really use kpaint and gimp but you prob never heard of those and the above are just the windows eq.
