Should I study an Art degree before I study web design/development?

I only took classes of arts once and he was not the best art teacher and that was when I was like 10-12 and now i'm 21. I still continued to draw but I never learned how to draw great by "imaginating" a horse from my mind or etc. but i'm very good drawing pictures and ect. (except real people) by "looking at it". I'm very good drawing animes (but I still need to look at pictures). That's what I did in the past and still do now.

I stopped drawing for a few years (but I did drew a few times a month) but I still think I need to learn more about how to draw better.

Should I get an associate/bachelor or just taking simple classes of art so that I can learn to be a better artist and be good at web designing/dev?

I hear people always saying that art and creativity is first and very important before taking web design/dev.

This is very important to me because drawing is my life! I just couldn't get art classes back then.

Please help me and thank you so much!

If you truely love art then go to school for illustration- Web design is exactly that, web design. It's more important for a web designer to know how to use a digital camera, and HTML then good drawing skills now-a-days.

Most companies that want web sites made, supply the images, or logos.

When designing logos it's very rare to have to create an amazing better then life design, it's usually flat shapes and text.

If your interested in art, and want to get a job as a web designer then take art classes for fun. Find a life drawing course first and foremost- it will teach you a tonn about everything.

Reply:Well, yeah, creativity is needed in any occupation where you have to *create* something.

If you want to draw pictures by imagination, meaning without reference right at hand, but with your accumulation of knowledge, then practice doing that.

There are jobs out there that only require you to draw what you see... like documenting scenes in the courtroom, or a plant for research.

Web design doesn't need that you know how to draw... its just that you know whats needed to make the best possible display of a web page. You can commission an artist if you want some drawing on your page, but you have to be the director, the person pulling all things together. Learn about color coordination or something.

But, don't give up drawing. Take classes if you want.

EDIT: Also, you can't be taught how to draw well. It first lies in your natural ability, then in the time you devote to practicing. You can, however, be guided. Just don't think your skill will be marvelously improved without you utilizing those tips, and, once again, practicing. That can't be stressed enough.
